History

The Art Music Awards are presented each year by the APRA and the AMC (Australian Music Centre) to honour the achievements of composers, performers and industry specialists within contemporary art music, jazz, experimental music, and music education. The Art Music Awards consist of ten national awards and various State and Territory Awards across categories covering composition, performance, and outstanding contributions to Australian music, music education and regional music.

Formerly staged as the Classical Music Awards, the inaugural Art Music Awards were held in 2011 and introduced two new categories: Jazz Work of the Year and Award for Excellence in Experimental Music. The 2012 Art Music Awards saw the addition of another new category, Award for Excellence in Jazz. The 2013 Art Music Awards will be held on Monday 26th August in Sydney.
