APRA members are very active in local and international songwriting and composing competitions. Details of current competitions, as well as master classes and other educational opportunities will be posted here regularly.

AmpFest 2010 - 26 March

Ampfest is a live music contest that is open to bands, duo and solo acts. There are more than $10 000 worth of prizes and valuable industry experience available. Entrants must be between 12 and 25 years old to enter.

AmpFest 2010 - is designed by young people for young people and has been running since 2003. The Youth Advisory Councils of the Towns of Claremont and Mosman Park and the Cities of Subiaco and Nedlands, have formulated AmpFest so that it provides valuable professional development skills for young unsigned acts and provides a series of safe and fun events for the local community.

The application form is available in electronic format or in hardcopies from Zenith Music Claremont or any participating council offices. More information can be picked up from www.ampfest.com.au . Entries close at 5pm on Friday 26 March 2010.
 

Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship 2010 (Piano) - 30 April 2010

Established by the Will of the late Susan Mary Remington to recognise the work and achievements of pianist Michael Kieran Harvey, this scholarship provides funds to a deserving postgraduate music student to travel overseas for specific purposes to further or enhance their musical education.
The Scholarship will be awarded to the pianist who has fulfilled the required conditions and who is judged to have displayed outstanding ability and promise in piano.

The Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship is valued at $40,000 and may be awarded as 2 scholarships of $20,000 each, paid over 2 years, or 1 scholarship of $40,000 paid over 2 years.

The Melbourne Prize for Music - 2010

The Melbourne Prize for Music 2010 will be launched in early 2010 with a total prize pool over $100,000 - keep an eye on www.melbourneprizetrust.org

As one of the most valuable music prizes in Australia, it will be open to all music genres and include the $60,000 Melbourne Prize for Music 2010, the $30,000 Outstanding Musicians Award 2010 and the $12,000 Development Award 2010.

2010 Rebel Yelp Songwriter Award - Now open

In the finest Australian Celtic tradition, the 2010 Rebel Yelp Songwriter Award again provides a platform for songwriters to stand up and speak out on issues near and dear to them.

So if you have an ORIGINAL UNPUBLISHED REBEL song that you want to share with the world, contact the Blarney Bulletin at  (PS: “rebel” is defined broadly as an issue you feel passionate about, and “unpublished” means not available commercially at the time of entry).

The  2010 Rebel Yelp Songwriter Award - Australia’s only songwriting award with a social conscience - is proudly sponsored by Pete Bird’s Yelp Studio, Trad & Now, and Cole Clark Guitars. The 2010 Award winner will receive a four-hour recording session with Yelp Studio and a year’s subscription to Australia’s leading folk & roots magazine, Trad & Now.
