PERFORMERS & PRESENTERS LINE UP FOR 2009 APRA MUSIC AWARDS
Event to be broadcast on MAX Sun July 5th at 8.30pm

Australia’s annual songwriting knees up, the 2009 APRA Music Awards will be held on Tuesday June 23rd at Melbourne’s Peninsula and will feature an impressive roll call of performers and presenters who will add their own unique razzle dazzle to the celebrations. And subscription television music channel MAX (available on Foxtel and Austar) will be along for the ride to capture the event for an exclusive television broadcast to air on Sunday July 5th at 8.30pm.

Hosted by the incomparable and irrepressible JONATHAN BIGGINS, the 2009 APRA Music Awards will feature performances by an array of Australian songwriters. Hot on the heels of their new album Confetti spending 3 weeks in the national top 10 the wonderful LITTLE BIRDY will perform their song Brother. As a special treat for those in the room and MAX viewers, they will be joined on stage by the legendary PAUL KELLY.  This marks the very first performance of this song together since the band invited Paul into the studio during the recording of Confetti to guest on vocals and harmonica.

Fresh from opening for US mega star Pink on her current Australian tour are first-time APRA nominees FAKER who will perform at the awards along with Blues & Roots nominee LIOR. Also performing live will be THE POTBELLEEZ, who with 3 nods lead the nominations tally for the 2009 APRA Music Awards. Hip-hop trailblazers and first time nominees BLISS N ESO will also bust out their poetry in motion at the Awards.

ABBE MAY, winner of the 2009 Popular Contemporary Category for the APRA PDA’s (Professional Development Awards) will perform along with her band THE ROCKIN’ PNEUMONIA. Fronted by the howling and enigmatic Abbe, The Rockin’ Pneumonia are set to release their new album Policy Blues in 2009.

And the final performance of the night will be courtesy of the extraordinarily talented DAN SULTAN. His debut album Homemade Biscuits was released in 2006 to rave reviews and with appearances at several major Australian festivals it hasn’t taken long for people to take notice. A much-anticipated 2nd album is due for release in 2009.

Taking up presenting honours on the night will be ARCHIE ROACH, CLARE BOWDITCH and ABBY DOBSON, APRA nominee JULIAN HAMILTON of The Presets and previous APRA winner GLENN RICHARDS from Augie March, MICHAEL GUDINSKI, PHRASE, JOSH ABRAHAMS and the celebrated Seeker JUDITH DURHAM with KUTCHA EDWARDS.

The APRA Board of Writer and Publisher Directors decide the celebrated Songwriter of the Year award and the Ted Albert Award For Outstanding Services to Australian Music. Previous recipients of these prestigious awards include songwriters Daniel Johns, Bernard Fanning and Neil Finn and Ted Albert Award alumni include Roger Davies, Michael Chugg, Michael McMartin, Don Burrows, and Angus and Malcolm Young.

This year’s Ted Albert recipient will be Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand DENIS HANDLIN AM who will be presented this special award by his long time friend & colleague, music legend JOHN FARNHAM.

The APRA Board of Writer and Publisher Directors also decide the Breakthrough Songwriter Award, which recognises emerging songwriting talent. This recipient of this award will be announced on the night.

The 2009 APRA Music Awards will be hosted by Jonathan Biggins and will be broadcast exclusively on MAX, on Sunday 5th July at 8.30pm. MAX is available on FOXTEL and AUSTAR.
