As CMJ continues its reign as New York City's largest music event, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA will be working in close collaboration with the festival, creating activity and initiatives designed to maximize the presence and outcomes of the 22 Australian bands participating in 2011.  Joining over 1300 musicians, 120,000 fans, music industry professionals, college radio tastemakers, bloggers, press  and  filmmakers will be:

AN HORSE | ART VS SCIENCE | BLEEDING KNEES CLUB | BOY AND BEAR CAMERAS | CLUBFEET | GOODBYEMOTEL | GOTYE | GRACE WOODROOFE  GUINEAFOWL | LITTLE RED | OUR MOUNTAIN |SATELLITE SKY | SEEKAE | THE AMCATS | THE GRATES | THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS | THE MORNING AFTER GIRLS| THE KIN |THE TRIP| WIM | YOUNG MAGIC

SOUNDS AUSTRALIA will be extremely involved over the five day music marathon, starting with an exhibition launch for renowned Australian rock photographer Tony Mott. Taking over the Red Bull Space for two weeks, Tony’s exhibition; “Rock n Roll Photography is the New Trainspotting” opens with a bang, featuring special guest performances by Cameras and Guineafowl. It will also be the first opportunity for industry to familiarise themselves with the many Australians that are in town for CMJ 2011. Tony’s presence at CMJ promises to add extra value and exposure to both Australian artists as well as New York City, with bespoke photo shoots taking place surrounded by CMJ’s/NYC’s most recognizable landmarks.

For the first time in CMJ’s history, THE AUSSIE BBQ  will feature as part of the event’s official programming. STAGEMOTHERS and SOUNDS AUSTRALIA are thrilled to be featuring 13 incredibly diverse Australian acts on the one bill. Taking place at The Delancey, we’re looking forward to showing the locals how to BBQ right; with a constant flow of great tunes, juicy snags and cool bevvies.

After the success of the SOUNDS AUSTRALIA College Day lunch last year, we’ll be sponsoring the whole shebang in 2011! Dedicated entirely to the Music Directors, Radio Programmers, producers and student volunteers, all working at College Radio Stations around the USA, this niche event will feature FBi Radio Music Director, Dan Zilber as a guest speaker along with nine Australian  artists performing 2 song showcases throughout the day, culminating in the CMJ College Day awards. Thanks to our friends at WAM and Stage and Screen, one lucky attendee will win a flight to the WAMI festival in Perth 2012.

We couldn’t leave the Island without a lesson in TIM TAM SLAMS, where apart from schooling New Yorkers in the art of dunking our national biscuit, SOUNDS AUSTRALIA facilitates the opportunity for the Australian industry, and in particular the showcasing artist managers, to meet with a number of the US speakers (including representatives from Kill Rock Stars, Daptone Records, Nimbit, Pandora, TAO, Windish Agency) following their respective panels at NYU during Marathon. We understand the value of face time, and look forward to making new contacts and creating new networks for our delegates.

We wind it all up with our annual farewell Wrap Party hosted by our friends at Cyber PR, presented by Mobile Backstage. Involving intimate, striped back sets, home-made apple pie, and a pavlova or two, it’s a great way to ease out of what promises to be a bustling, fruitful, inspiring week in NYC.
