APRA|AMCOS welcomes the Government's announcement that it will provide on-going annual funding of $400,000 a year for the Contemporary Music Touring Program. The program focuses on bringing musicians to local venues in regional centres and remote communities.

The opportunity to tour and perform live to regional audiences is incredibly important, for both emerging and established artists. The ability to perform and trial new material with smaller audiences assists in artist development, income
generation and networking with fans and industry. For many artists the ability to tour regionally will become their first step towards an international career.

Also welcomed was the announcement of $10 million in new funding to support young and emerging artists over the next five years, including grants for the creation of new music.

APRA|AMCOS has advocated the value of the venue-based live music economy and in particular its importance to regional communities.

"The fact that there is an acknowledgement in the budget of the value of live music in regional areas and the development of new content is pleasing," said APRA|AMCOS CEO, Brett Cottle.

“APRA|AMCOS has facilitated the commission of a report into the national economic value of venue-based live music as a means of highlighting to both state and federal governments the importance and potential of live music."

The report is due for release in June.
