The Touch – Winners of the 10th Anniversary Emily Burrows Award
Wednesday, 22 December 2010
Adelaide’s dance-punk outfit The Touch has taken out the 10th Anniversary Emily Burrows Award.
Members of the band Josh Moore, Shane Lock, Craig Lock, Justin Walkden and Chad Hooper accepted the awards at a presentation held last week.
The $4,000 Award is sponsored by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) and is awarded each year to recognise and further the professional development of emerging original music artists or bands in South Australia.
Since forming in 2007, the band have hit the ground running playing numerous headline gigs and festivals including, Parklife, Big Day Out, One Movement, and have supported the likes of Lady Hawke, Miami Horror, Children Collide and Art Vs Science. They continue to impress both industry and punters with their energetic live shows. With two EPs under their belt and more recordings in the works, 2011 is set to be a big year for The Touch.
“The Emily Burrows Award is going to give us more credibility, we have always done pretty well from the crowd perspective but we’ve never really had a music association that has really got behind us. It’ll give something to latch onto,” said Craig Lock, Bassist for The Touch.

Previous winners of the Emily Burrows Award have included Poetikool Justice (2009), The Fiddle Chicks (2008), Huckleberry Swedes (2007), Mere Theory (2006), Pharaohs (2005), Foreshore (2004), Special Patrol (2003), Hilltop Hoods (2002) and Gone to Earth (2001).
The Emily Burrows Award was instituted in 2001 in memory of Emily Burrows, a former APRA membership representative and compliance officer, who worked tirelessly to support and encourage South Australian songwriters and composers. The Award was established following her tragic, accidental death in 2000.
