Vale Dutch Tilders
Thursday, 28 April 2011
The staff of APRA|AMCOS extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dutch Tilders, an APRA member since 1975, who passed away on April 23.
An Australian blues legend, Tilders moved from his birthplace of the Netherlands to Melbourne in 1955 at the age of 14, and played his first paid gig only a year later - at Collingwood Town Hall, sharing a bill with Johnny O'Keefe.
In the five decades since, Tilders gained a reputation as one of Australia's most legendary blues acts, sharing bills with Taj Mahal, John Mayall, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. He also counted B.B. King among his personal friends.
Tilders was diagnosed with lung cancer in May last year, and lost his battle with it on Saturday April 23. He will be sorely missed, and remembered fondly as one of Australia's finest bluesmen.
