Screen Music Awards

APRA & AGSC are delighted to announce details of the presenters who will take to the stage at the 2008 Screen Music Awards on Monday November 3rd. The event, which honours the often-unsung heroes of screen composition, will be held at Sydney’s illustrious City Recital Hall.

DAVID HIRSCHFELDER, arguably Australia’s most internationally renowned screen composer will take part in celebrations of the 2008 APRA – AGSC SCREEN MUSIC AWARDS.  It’s been a big year for DAVID HIRSCHFELDER. Not only is he nominated for a 2008 Screen Music Award (in the category of BEST FEATURE FILM SCORE for Children of the Silk Road), he has also just put the finishing touches on the original screen composition for Baz Luhrmann’s eagerly anticipated feature film Australia.

All round star of stage, screen and radio RHYS MULDOON will join the presenters lineup at the 2008 APRA – AGSC Screen Music Awards. His performances have garnered him many awards, including AFIs, IF Awards, Logies, Helpmann Awards and a Green Room Award. He recently hosted the 2020 Summit in Canberra

Also joining the presenter’s cast will be FERGUS LINEHAN, Festival Director and Chief Executive of Sydney Festival.  The Irishman who has bought Sydney-siders such delights as Elvis Costello, Lou Reed’s Berlin, Sylvie Guillem and a season of Beckett plays, Fergus Linehan is no stranger to the marriage of music and drama.

Long time front man of the iconic Australian rock band Midnight Oil, and now Member for Kingsford Smith and the Minister for Environment, Heritage and the Arts, the Honorable PETER GARRETT will be stepping up to the presenting podium for this year’s Screen Music Awards.

The multi talented NADINE GARNER, currently starring on City Homicide, is confirmed as a presenter for the 2008 APRA – AGSC Screen Music Awards. The accomplished actress has starred in some of Australia's landmark television shows, from The Secret Life of Us to Neighbours, A Country Practice, GP, Tribe and The Flying Doctors.

CEO of Leo Burnett advertising agency TODD SAMPSON has signed up to present at the 2008 APRA – AGSC Screen Music Awards. He was a recently a panelist on the hit ABC television show The Gruen Transfer, which playfully deconstructed the advertising industry.

Award winning actor, singer, writer LEAH PURCELL will also present at this year’s Screen Music Awards.  One of this country’s finest actors and co-creator of the award winning play Box the Pony, LEAH PURCELL has starred in the TV dramas Fallen Angels and Police Rescue, as well as feature films Lantana, The Proposition and Jindabyne.

Star of stage and the big and small screens, BARRY OTTO will be presenting at this year’s Screen Music Awards.  Recognised for his work on numerous Australian television shows and classic films like Strictly Ballroom and Oscar and Lucinda, he will soon hit our cinema screens once more in Baz Luhrmann’s Australia.

If it weren’t for MARTIN ARMIGER the Screen Music Awards would not exist. Thanks to his initial inspiration, the Screen Music Awards were established by the AGSC to follow their Annual General Meeting and the inaugural event was held in 1992 in a small, smoke-filled club with just 40 guests.  MARTIN ARMIGER went on to serve as AGSC president for seven years. He returns as a presenter in 2008 off the back of his most recent score composition for the feature film Clubland.

Last but not least, event organisers are proud to announce that Screen Awards nominee JOSH PYKE will deliver a very special performance.  Accompanied by a live ensemble conducted by highly regarded composer CEZARY SKUBISZEWSKI and including Harry Angus (The Cat Empire) and Jan Skubiszewski (Jackson Jackson), JOSH PYKE will perform his nominated song “When We Get There”, from the Australian feature film The Black Balloon. He has just the released his second album, the warm and evocative Chimney’s Afire.
