30 songs are now one step closer to winning the most prestigious music prize in the country and the largest peer-voted music award in Australia – APRA Song of the Year.
Over the past few weeks, APRA members across the country have got behind their peers and nominated their favourite song from last year in an effort to help recognise and celebrate outstanding Australian songwriters.
"The Top 30 shortlist for the 2013 APRA Song of the Year Award is impressive and illustrates the breadth of talent in this country across the genre spectrum,” said APRA CEO Brett Cottle. “It's a fantastic list of songwriters that includes up-and-comers like Flume who's now selling out stadiums, hip hop champion 360 and country music stalwarts like Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson.”
“Congratulations to all our members who have made the shortlist. It's the largest peer-voted music award in Australia - all nominations are provided by APRA's songwriter, composer and music publisher members and APRA members get to vote on the final recipient, so it's a real honour to make the shortlist and to be named as the final recipient of the Award. I wish all our nominees well as the voting process commences in earnest."
Now the time has come for APRA members to choose the ultimate winner from the Top 30 list of songs written and co-written by their fellow APRA members.
Songwriters can join APRA for free and get paid for the use of their music. Once their membership is approved, they’ll be eligible to vote for APRA Song of the Year. Voting members also go in the running to win a Gibson guitar, Macbook Pro and tickets to the 2013 APRA Music Awards.
Help us honour the craft of songwriting and spread the word.
* Please note this list is in alphabetical order, not in order of popularity.
Voting closes on Monday, April 22, 2013.
