Bunna Lawrie awarded NAIDOC Lifetime Achievement Award
Monday, 9 July 2012
APRA wishes to congratulate ATSI member Bunna Lawrie, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 NAIDOC Awards.
Bunna is best known as the lead vocalist and chief songwriter of Coloured Stone, a band from the Koonibba Mission in South Australia. Their biggest single, 'Black Boy' (1984) sold 120,000 copies and was a #1 hit in Fiji, and is just one song among an extensive discography of work, both with Coloured Stone and as a solo artist.
In 1986, Coloured Stone won an ARIA Award for their record Human Love, while in 1999 he was both the first Aboriginal Australian and the first rock musician to win the Don Banks Music Award.
