Millie Millgate awarded ‘SMAC of the Year’
Tuesday, 24 January 2012
SOUNDS AUSTRALIA’s Music Export Producer Millie Millgate has been awarded the highly regarded ‘SMAC of the Year’ in recognition of her efforts working with Australian musicians internationally.
Organised by FBi Radio, the SMAC (Sydney Music Arts & Culture) awards celebrate the artists, musicians, venues, promoters and culture makers who keep the city’s creative heart beating. The awards were held at the National Art School in Darlinghurst.
The SMAC of the Year award recognises a vast contribution to Sydney music, arts and culture. Millie’s involvement in the Sydney music scene made her a strong candidate for the award, with a wealth of experience including her time as Creative Director of Music NSW and booker for iconic venues The Annandale and The Hopetoun. In her current position with SOUNDS AUSTRALIA, Millie's work with local artists now reaches across continents in her role as the Music Export Producer.
Millie joins previous winners Fergus Linehan (Sydney Festival), John Wardle (Raise the Bar) and Hana Shimada & Jimmy Sing (Goodgod Small Club).
In accepting her SMAC award, Millie recognised the connection between the FBi Radio and the success of Sydney based artists abroad;
“The number of NSW based artists that have been selected to showcase and feature at the international showcase events, has grown exponentially since FBi’s existence,” Millie said.
“This has been incredible to witness first hand….Just this past year previous SMAC winners such as Cloud Control, WIM, The Jezabels, Seekae and Guineafowl dominated the international showcase circuit and continue their rise in key overseas territories.”
